Asuka’s WWE future had been uncertain until it was confirmed that she recently underwent surgery for her injury. Despite limited information about her hiatus, backstage sources have provided an update on her potential return to the ring.

Asuka has not competed since May 4, when she and Kairi Sane lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair at Backlash: France.

Asuka was scheduled to face Lyra Valkyria on WWE RAW two days later in a first-round match of the Queen of the Ring tournament, but she was replaced by Dakota Kai.

Asuka has since disclosed that she underwent knee surgery, which appears to be a recurring issue as she was seen limping a few months prior.

A new report from Fightful Select indicates that Asuka is not expected back in the ring by the end of this year, according to sources in WWE.

Further details about the specific injury were not disclosed. While Asuka’s return in 2025 is likely, her medical clearance and return would depend on her rehabilitation and recovery progress.
