AEW Has Reportedly Had TV Deal On The Table From WBD For Months

As we previously reported here on eWn, AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery are currently negotiating a new television rights deal. Both companies are confident about continuing their partnership, which will involve substantial collaboration and cross-promotion efforts. The outcome of these negotiations will be pivotal in shaping AEW’s future within the wrestling industry.

According to a report from Fightful Select, both AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery are confident that their partnership will continue. WBD has actively contributed to cross-promotional efforts, such as integrating the House of the Dragon and the Reebok deal for The Young Bucks.

While an offer from Warner Bros. Discovery to AEW has been on the table for several months, specific details are yet to be made available. Discussions have been ongoing since last year, including talks about incorporating AEW pay-per-view events on Max. AEW has chosen to exercise patience, and the conversations have continued.

The report states, "There is already an offer on the table from the WBD side to AEW and has been for months, though the details regarding that are few and far between. There have been ongoing talks for quite some time, dating back to last year, when overtures were made to get AEW PPV on Max. However, AEW has opted to wait so far and conversations continued.”

Given the various factors at play, predicting a specific number for the deal is challenging. AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly convene weekly meetings on Mondays to deliberate integrations, creative plans, and potential obstacles.

Moreover, different time slots and three-hour blocks have been experimented with to ascertain the best nights and times for AEW shows, which include Dynamite, Collision, and Rampage.

Warner Bros. Discovery has shown interest in featuring AEW pay-per-views on the Max service in 2023, but it is expected that AEW will first negotiate their properties collectively. According to sources, a streaming deal will be a component of AEW’s next contract with Warner Bros. Discovery.

The outcome of the NBA rights negotiations could significantly impact AEW’s future. An AEW source likened it to an NFL quarterback setting the contract market, indicating the potential for flexibility in other programming if WBD lost NBA TV rights.
