Rory McIlroy has achieved great things in the game, both as an amateur and professional, and he remains one of the very best players in men's golf.
From a humble upbringing in Northern Ireland we celebrate a career that continues to flourish.
Born? Rory was born on 4/5/89 in Holywood in Northern Ireland. He would take up golf at an early age and was famously captured chipping balls into a washing machine at the age of nine.
Turn pro? He turned pro in September 2007 after a glittering amateur career which saw him reach World No. 1, win the Silver Medal at The Open and play Walker Cup. He secured his Tour card after just a handful of starts.
First pro win? This came at the Dubai Desert Classic in 2009, aged just 19. He gotp and down from the sand at the 72nd hole to edge out Justin Rose – the win moved him to 16th in the world.
Married? McIlroy married Erica Stoll, a former employee of the PGA of America, in 2017. They began dating in 2015 having met at the 2012 Ryder Cup. They got wed at Ashford Castle in County Mayo and they had a daughter, Poppy, in September 2020.
Car? McIlroy is a huge fan of fast, powerful cars. Reportedly he owns a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, worth £240,000, as well as a Ferrari F430 and a Lamborghini Aventador. There are also rumblings that he has an Aston Martin DB11 and Range Rover Sport tucked away in his garage.
Lives? He lives inside the gated Bear's Club golf community in Jupiter, Florida in a home that was previously owned by Ernie Els. It features nine bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, an infinity pool, games room, tennis court, home theatre, recording studio and state-of-the-art gym.
He also supposedly owns homes in La Quinta, California and at home in County Down in Northern Ireland. Otherwise he has apartments in New York and the United Arab Emirates.
Favourite sporting teams? McIlroy supports Manchester United and Ulster rugby team. In NFL he has expressed a liking for the Buffalo Bills.
Earnings? Forbes estimates his net worth to be around $83 million, with $38m on the course and the PIP and $45m in endorsements.
With wins at The Players Championship and Pebble Beach Pro-Am he tops the 2025 PGA Tour Money list with earnings of $8,719,714 (pre-2025 Houston Open).
Equipment? McIlroy signed with TaylorMade in 2017 after Nike left the hardware market. The deal is reported to be a 10-year one, $10m for each year, and includes all 14 clubs and the ball. He also still has a shoe and apparel deal with Nike as well as other endorsements.
Biggest achievement? In the space of a few weeks McIlroy doubled his Major haul to four by capturing The Open and PGA. Bizarrely all that came in 2014 and we're still waiting for that fifth Major and first Green Jacket.
