Redbirds Get Back to .500 Against the Young Pittsburgh Ace

The Cardinals earned their 75th win of the season today in a shutout victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Things were quiet until the fourth inning, when Nolan Arenado kicked off the scoring with an RBI single in the fourth inning, scoring Alec Burleson. 1-0 Cardinals.

In the seventh inning, Pedro Pages doubled the lead to 2-0 with an RBI single, scoring Brendan Donovan.

In the eighth inning, Brendan Donovan stroked a double to left field, scoring Paul Goldschmidt to make it 3-0.

Later in the frame, Lars Nootbaar flew out to score Nolan Arenado to make the score 4-0.

Andre Pallante was outstanding tonight, going seven scoreless innings and allowing just four hits and a free pass with nine punchouts.

Andrew Kittredge picked up a hold, tossing a scoreless frame with a strikeout. Ryan Fernandez shut the door in the ninth, fanning two hitters of his own.

Lance Lynn (6-4, 3.96 ERA) takes the bump tomorrow against former Philly Bailey Falter (8-7, 4.20 ERA).
