WWE Is Currently Planning For John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes At WrestleMania 41Jeff Whalen

-- WWE has begun gearing up towards WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas and one of the most pressing questions that has yet to be answered is who WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes' opponent will be. Initially, and based off of events last year, it was expected that WrestleMania would be headlined by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vs. Rhodes, however, news emerged late in 2024 that Johnson wasn't going to be wrestling at the event, leaving Rhodes' opponent up in the air.

-- In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that as of now, John Cena is penciled in as Rhodes' opponent with the idea that Cena will be challenging one of the two champions in a story where he attempts to break the apparent record of 16 world title reigns that he currently shares with Ric Flair. The report added that this idea has been in the works for "months" and that when WWE thought Rock would be working WrestleMania, Cena was going to be wrestling for the title held by Gunther.

-- The big caveat of course is Rock's level of participation at WrestleMania as the expectation is that while he will be appearing on the show in some form, nobody knows if things will change and Rock will suddenly be available for a match. In this scenario, whatever The Rock wants to do, WWE will alter storylines to accommodate him and for what it's worth, Rock's original hope was to face Rhodes in a match where it would be Cody's title against his People's Title. One would expect that on the Raw Netflix premiere on Monday, things might start to become a bit clearer.
