Bayley assesses the new title coming to WWE.

For many years, the women in WWE pushed for the company to reintroduce tag team championships to their division. In 2019, WWE did as such by crowning Bayley and Sasha Banks (now AEW’s Mercedes Mone) as the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Champions at Elimination Chamber. Earlier this month, WWE confirmed another addition to the division — that being the Women’s United States Championship.

In a recent interview with Brad Gilmore for CW 39 Houston, Bayley was asked if she advocated for this secondary singles championship much like she previously did for the women’s tag titles.

“I didn’t push for it as much as I did the women’s tag titles,” Bayley said. “Those tag titles, we were at the door every single week. We had pitches, we had teams together. We were there every single week for months. That I can fully say that we’re the ones who made it happen. We weren’t stopping until it happened. With this one, it’s more of ones that I would say in interviews, and that’s only because I believe that we can carry a secondary title like that. The division is ready for it. But I also wanted to see the women’s tag titles grow as well. It was hard to say I want another title when I still think there’s so much work to be done with the tag titles.”

Bayley Is Not Losing Focus Of The Women’s Tag Titles

According to Bayley, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship still need to be “watered” a bit. Overall, though, she believes they’re on a good track with the current titleholders, Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair.

“Jade Cargill and Bianca are really elevating those titles,” Bayley said. “We have so many great tag teams. If the women get an opportunity and they’re put in a tag team picture, their focus is tag team wrestling. It’s very different than singles wrestling, but it’s a very big important part of the show right now. That’s my kudos to Bianca and Jade for really pushing that on the company and on the fans.”

Last week on SmackDown, Bayley advanced in the Women’s United States Championship tournament with a win over B-Fab and Candice LeRae.
