The Arizona State women made huge progress in the 200 medley relay this season and earned All-American honors with an 8th place finish in a 1:34.54. The team of Miriam Sheehan, Iza Adame, Julia Ullman, and Caroline Bentz have broken the school record six times this season.

The team broke the school record swimming a 1:36.40 in the first dual meet of the season at the start of October and kept improving. They broke it again with a 1:36.17 in the dual meet against NC State at the end of October and swam a 1:35.78 a month later at midseason.

In January, the four combined to a 1:35.69 in the dual meet against Rice before swimming to a 1:35.63 at Big 12s. The biggest drop came between conferences and NCAAs as they dropped over a second.

First year head coach Herbie Behm said, "I think it’s just because of how well they work together, how well they support each other, and how they compete in practice. It’s really just the environment that they’ve created. It just allows for constant growth."

Half of the relay entered this fall as transfers. Sheehan arrived after her freshman season at NC State while Bentz joined the Sun Devils as a fifth year after spending her undergraduate career at Virginia Tech.

"It’s been great because Miriam Sheehan is somebody who is a transfer to us, but I actually coached her when she was nine. Caroline Bentz came in and Ella Guilfoil as well. I know I’m blanking on some right now, but just all of those additions have been really good. We got a couple of internationals who are ineligible but back on training that have been going really fast in practice. It’s been awesome to see it grow so quickly, and that’s, I think, I mean, somebody like Caroline is such an incredible leader in every single way. It’s really cool to have her. I wish more than a year but [at least] her fifth year."

The team's transfer portal additions are not stopping with this past offseason. Behm already hinted at some additions on the men's side for the upcoming season.

"The portal is already heating up and definitely shopping, so I mean some really good ones that will make a huge impact, specifically on the men’s side. I can say sixth place on our depth chart in the 50 freestyle is 19.0 right now. We have five 18s coming in next year so that’s gonna be pretty crazy."

Through just day two, the women have already out scored their points total from last years NCAA Championships. The team scored 23 points last year and have 31.5 points through night 2. The team was 24th overall last year while the men's team captured the 2024 NCAA Championship. The women's team has been able to build off of the men's team and its success.

"I think it goes back to just the culture and environment that we’ve created. It’s something that is just a ton of hard work by a lot of people. On the men's side and now the women are starting to learn how to do that. They’re just just starting to scratch the surface of what they can do. I’m super excited to see the future of that certain work, recruiting and all of those things."
