A five round kickboxing bout between Rodtang and Takeru barely got started before the Muay Thai legend KO'd the Japanese kickboxer in under 90 seconds.

ONE 172 went down from the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday night and the event ended with a bang as Muay Thai star Rodtang Jitmuangnon knocked out superstar kickboxer Takeru Segawa in less than a minute and a half.

Takeru is a former three division K-1 world champion but hasn't fared well during his time in ONE. He was defeated by Superlek in his debut with the promotion, but that was via a competitive decision. This time in Tokyo, Rodtang established his speed advantage early and then caught Takeru with a big left hook that sent the Japanese fighter to the canvas.

The referee waved the fight off after Takeru was unable to get to his feet quickly enough. The official time: 1:20 of Round 1.

Rodtang came into ONE 172 with a bit of a question mark over his head following a weigh-in miss at ONE 169 that resulted in him being stripped of the ONE flyweight Muay Thai belt. But the Thai fighter said that was a 'wake up call' to re-invest himself in the sport, proper training, and proper nutrition. It paid off against Takeru, and now Rodtang is 12-1 over the past five years — with this being just his second finish in that time period.

It's unclear what this means for Takeru, who was at the peak of his stardom in 2022 when he faced Tenshin Nasukawa in the much-hyped showdown dubbed THE MATCH. He'd lose that fight via decision, and now he's 2-3 over his last five fights.
