After Paddy Pimblett's reaction to Dustin Poirier wanting to retire — and subsequently saying he'd defeat the former interim lightweight champion in a fight — fans are siding with "The Diamond."

Ahead of Pimblett's massive co-main event fight with Michael Chandler at UFC 314 on April 12 in Miami, "The Baddy" spoke with UFC broadcast partner ESPN and was asked about Poirier preparing for one last fight. Pimblett said Poirier "must be an idiot," although to be fair, Pimblett says it's because the longtime veteran looked super competitive against lightweight champ Islam Makhachev in a fifth-rounnd submission loss at UFC 302 this past June.

On top of that, Pimblett ended his reaction by saying, "I think I beat Dustin Poirier, so I'd love to fight him." That fight could make a lot of sense from a merit standpoint should Pimblett hand Chandler his third consecutive loss.

Judging by your reactions, you don't seem to agree with Pimblett's prediction for a potential fight with Poirier, or his reaction about the legendary lightweights plans to retire.

Check out the best comments from you, the readers, below. And make sure to vote in our poll, which asks who would win in a fight between Poirier and Pimblett.

I guess Paddy wants to be fraud checked (officially), then...
I wouldn't mind that, personally speaking, but I know for a fact the UFC would protect Paddy from that fate.

Okay Paddy, what you're saying is fighters should only look bad and get knocked out a bunch of times before retiring. Gotta stock up on that CTE is what you're saying.
This dumbass has the critical thinking capabilities of an earthworm. Hope he looks bad a bunch of times and gets sparked into Burger King before he retires.

I don't agree with Paddy. Dustin retiring while he's ahead is a lot better than how Tony went out.
With that said, for UFC trash talk, this is a glass of milk. Certainly nothing I'd get worked up over.
If he beats Chandler, the next fight I'd like to see him have is Ilia. I don't think Paddy gets near a belt. Ilia might get there if Islam moves up. This would be the best chance they have to go at it.

Calling a pro fighter an idiot for retiring is one of the dumbest things i have heard.
DP has had a legendary career. Plenty if wars too…retiring from mma is probably the smartest thing any fighter can do… gaining 50lbs between fights by eating pizza, not so smart.

Paddy is good, but he gets KOd by Poirier.

I agree with Paddy on precisely 1 thing: Dustin looked good as ever in his loss against Islam. He showed that he is still in his prime, whatever physical ability he has lost to age is offset by what he's gained in fighting experience. I can understand why he wants to retire though. He has businesses and enough money so that he doesn't need to put himself through all the work and stress and harm that comes with trying to claw his way back to a title shot.

Dustin would beat Paddy up bad, he should be quiet and hope he doesn't get this fight. Probably only speaking up because he knows Dustin doesn't want the fight.

Pimblett is the idiot. Poirier has nothing to prove. He's a future HOFer.

Part of me wants the UFC to give Paddy his wish especially if he gets past Chandler just so he can find out for himself that Poirier is levels above him and the other half hopes Chandler starches this guy so we can end this fallacy.

It's Dustin's career, and he can do whatever he wants. He's been fighting professionally for 16 years, and mileage can catch up to your body after fighting for that long. If he does indeed choose to retire, then it's Dustin's choice, and being an OG, I respect his decision.
That said, it's more idiotic that Paddy thinks he even has a shot at beating Poirier in any stage of his career. No wait, there's better word to describe Paddy, and that word is delusional.
