Sunny Edwards battled through a nasty cut to beat Adrian Curiel on points.

Edwards returned to winning ways on Saturday night after falling to defeat for the first time in his career against Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez last December.

The fight had to be stopped because of the cut

The Brit retired on his stool at the end of the ninth round that night but looked to be back to his sensational best as he completely outclassed his Mexican adversary in Phoenix, Arizona.

Curiel, who was recently stopped by Sivenathi Nontshinga in an IBF light-flyweight title rematch in February, was no match for Edwards.

The former IBF flyweight champion effortlessly glided around the ring landing pot shots at will while Curiel pushed the pace on the front foot.

Despite his best efforts, Curiel struggled to land anything of note on Edwards through six rounds.

However he did open up a nasty gash on his adversary's forehead after the two competitors accidentally clashed heads.

Blood poured down Edwards' face as DAZN commentator Chris Mannix remarked: "That's a zipper on his forehead right now… That cut is as bad as it can possibly be."

The action continued for two more before the doctor advised the referee to halt the contest early.

It then went to a technical decision which Edwards won unanimously with scorecards of 90-82, 88-84, and 87-85 in his favour, which was surprisingly close considering how much the Brit dominated proceedings.

Edwards was a clear winner

Edwards was booed after the result was read out as the Mexican fans were angered by his win.

He had showboated through the contest and mocked them further by sarcastically apologising.

Edwards said of the cut: “I’ve managed to leave Arizona uglier than I came.”
