Lex Luger Reflects On Being Compared To Hulk Hogan, Comments On Their Relationship

Lex Luger discusses being compared to Hulk Hogan earlier in his career. He also comments on their relationship.

Luger has often been compared to Hoan throughout his career. He was set to be Hogan’s successor as a top star when he joined WWE, but he never quite became the face of the franchise. Luger later returned to WCW and worked with Hogan there; they had a classic match on WCW Monday Nitro in 1997.

Speaking on his Lex Expressed, podcast, Lex Luger discussed being compared to Hogan.

“Other people mentioned that all the time,” Luger said. “But there will only ever be, in my mind then and now, one Hulk Hogan. I never felt in competition, or wanted to emulate or follow in his footsteps, or be the next Hulk Hogan. Cause I always felt there would never be another Hulk Hogan. I just wanted to be the best Lex Luger I could be with my character. So I never felt any pressure. A lot of the fans mentioned that, but my thought process never went there at all.”

As for their relationship, Luger said that it was great, and he would always be thankful for Hogan and what he did for him.

“We have a great relationship,” Luger said. “It’s been special…There’s always been a mutual respect. All our interactions are positive. I’m very fond of Hulkster, and I’ll always be thankful to him for the work he did with me. Our relationship, to this day, is fantastic.”(H/t Wrestling Inc. for the transcription)
