Happy Festivus.
It's December 23rd, which means Festivus is here! Everyone gather around the pole and air your grievances. The fifth inning of World Series Game 5 definitely gave us more than we could've possibly expected in a year in which the Yankees actually won the pennant. (And perhaps a somber "Feats of Strength" in memory of Juan Soto, departed New York Yankee.)
Today on the site, Matt will have some fun looking into the backstory of the very first official Yankee to take the field under the team's modern name, and Nick S. will break down the details of the Paul Goldschmidt signing. Later on, Josh will follow up yesterday's Willie McGee article with a second consecutive early-'80s highly regrettable Yankees trade as part of our "Best 50 Could-Have-Beens of the Yankees' Past 50 Years" series.
Questions/Prompts:
1. If given the option from the three primary MLB first base transactions on Saturday, which would you have preferred: sign Paul Goldschmidt, trade for Josh Naylor, or sign Carlos Santana?
2. Are the New York Giants doomed to a 2-15 record?
