Leon Edwards is hoping to remind the fans of his championship skillset on his return to the O2 Arena this Saturday.
The former UFC welterweight champion was originally scheduled to take on Jack Della Maddalena at UFC London this Saturday but a late shake-up of opponents now sees him fighting Sean Brady in the main event.
Ahead of their late notice main event, Brady has sent ‘skinny’ Edwards a warning, touching on his grappling advantage in the fight.
Despite that, Leon Edwards is hopeful of securing a trilogy fight against Belal Muhammad, following the disappointment of his title-losing performance against Muhammad at UFC 304.
Leon Edwards teases a Roy Jones Jr-inspired post-fight speech
After winning the UFC welterweight title after sending Kamaru Usman into the shadow realm at UFC 278, ‘Rocky’ Edwards produced one of the greatest post-fight moments ever when he was interviewed by Joe Rogan.
Edwards is looking to roll back the years with not only his performance but with his planned post-fight speech if he comes out victorious against Brady.
“I have to go out there and take care of Sean, what I’m gonna say on the microphone, obviously (I will call for a) title shot straightaway and just letting the world know that they must’ve forgot who I am and just reminding the world of who I am,” Edwards told TNT Sports.
The phrase ‘Y’all must’ve forgot’ was started by the boxing legend, Roy Jones Jr, who after a few losses released his own song, reminding people of his feats in the sport.
“Ya’ll must’ve forgot, 100%, definitely, I feel good I’m in good spirit,” Edwards continued.
Leon Edwards believes he can earn the next title shot
With Muhammad scheduled to take on Della Maddalena in his first title defense, Shavkat Rakhmonov is seemingly next in line to fight for the title after only missing out due to injury.
However, the Brit is confident that with a win over Brady, he can secure himself the next title shot, potentially leapfrogging over ‘The Nomad’.
Another welterweight contender who feels hard done by to miss out on the welterweight title shot is Ian Machado Garry.
The Irishman’s last outing came against the aforementioned Rakhmonov in which he controversially believes he was unfairly on the wrong side of a decision.
