The stove is offically hot, with the latest rumor coming out in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, as the final contenders have emerged along with their offers.
According to Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of the Athletic, Juan Soto is entering the final stages of his historic free agency, with all signs pointing toward the four-time all-star reaching an agreement with a club by or shortly after the upcoming Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas, Texas.
Of the remaining contenders, which have been publicly known to include the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers, all have made contract offers above $600 million.
The Los Angeles Dodgers recently met with Soto and his agent, Scott Boras, around two weeks ago in Southern California, along with the other teams already mentioned.
While the Dodgers do not need to add Juan Soto to an already ungodly roster, there is an opening in the outfield with Mookie Betts becoming a full-time infielder and Teoscar Hernández becoming a free agent.
Soto is on pace to become one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball history with a career of .285/.421/.532 slash line, .935 OPS, and a 160 OPS+ while also coming off arguably the best season of his career, hitting a career-high forty-one home runs and driving in 109 runs for the New York Yankees.
With the calendar turning to December, we shall finally be entering the final weeks of his free agency, with the potential fallout also set to heat up the remaining free agent market.
