The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly in discussions with Farhan Zaidi, their former general manager and former president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants, about rejoining the organization, according to league sources cited by The Athletic on Tuesday.

Zaidi, who was hired before the 2019 season and fired by the Giants in September, was replaced by San Francisco’s beloved former catcher Buster Posey.

Details of his potential role with the Dodgers are also unclear as no deal has been finalized.

If Zaidi returns, he would reunite with the Dodgers, where he spent four seasons as general manager under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman. During his tenure, he helped refine an organization already poised for dominance, laying the groundwork for what Friedman has described as "the golden era of Dodger baseball."

Zaidi played a key role in the early success of the Dodgers' modern player development efforts, including the acquisitions of Max Muncy and Chris Taylor. Both players have since become integral parts of two World Series championship teams in Los Angeles.

Dodgers Nation previously discussed Zaidi potentially returning to the club but not as the general manager as Brandon Gomes has pretty much locked down that position. However, he could assume a smaller job or advisory role.

Zaidi’s tenure with the Giants lasted six seasons. It included leading the team to significant milestones, including breaking the Dodgers’ decade-long dominance in the National League West by winning the division in 2021. However, San Francisco failed to produce a winning season in any other year under his leadership.

In 2024, San Francisco finished fourth in the National League West with an 80-82 record. Over the course of the Zaidi era (2019-24), the team posted a 453-417 overall record.

Before joining the Dodgers in 2014 as general manager under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, Zaidi worked with the Oakland Athletics as their director of baseball operations and assistant general manager.
