The Dodgers added to the top of their starting rotation, signing two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to a contract that runs through the 2029 season.

The Dodgers made a big splash at the top end of the free agent market, signing pitcher Blake Snell to a five-year contract totaling $182 million that was finalized on November 30, 2024.

Snell was sidelined by injuries in the first half of the 2024 season with the Giants, but recovered with a minuscule 1.23 ERA over his final 14 starts, a great springboard into free agency for the left-hander, who exercised his opt-out clause with San Francisco on November 4.

After being one of the last free agents to sign last offseason — coming off his a Cy Young Award no less, his second — and inking a deal with San Francisco on March 19, just nine days before opening day, this offseason Snell was one of the first players to sign.

The 32-year-old left-hander had a 3.12 ERA and 2.54 ERA in 20 starts for the Giants in 2024, with 145 strikeouts in 104 innings. His 34.7-percent strikeout rate ranked second in MLB among pitchers with at least 100 innings.

Snell, who first posted a picture of himself in a Dodgers uniform wearing a number seven on Instagram on November 26, receives a $52 million signing bonus as part of the contract. His salaries in each season of the contract are $26 million, running through 2029. Of those salaries, $66 million is deferred ($13.2 million each year).

"What up, Dodgers fans? It's Blake Snell here. Really excited to be a Dodger, can't wait to win more championships with you guys," Snell said in a video released by the team on November 30. "See you all at Dodger Stadium."
