ARLINGTON, TX — Arike Ogunbowale and the Dallas Wings snapped their 11-game losing streak on Thursday. Dallas earned a 94-88 victory over the Minnesota Lynx. Ogunbowale led the way with 23 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and one steal.

“Definitely needed it (the win),” Ogunbowale said after the game. “Especially about to go on the road to play a good Seattle team twice. We definitely needed this win. I don’t think we did anything different, I don’t think we did anything that isn’t Dallas. A lot of the games that we’ve played hasn’t showed what we are, what our culture is.

“I think we showed it today. We just got to keep this going.”

Odyssey Sims, who was recently signed, played a big role in the win as well. She recorded 18 points, four assists, and three steals. Teaira McCowan added 17 points and 12 rebounds while Monique Billings scored 14 points in the win.

“When I got the call (that the Wings wanted to sign her) I was in Paris playing in like a street-ball tournament that they have every year,” Sims said.

She later said that despite dealing with jet-lag after flying to Dallas, she quickly prepared to play on Thursday.

“Happy we got the win,” Sims added.

The Wings are hopeful that the victory can build momentum. Dallas is not a bad team by any means. They are just 4-13 now, but injuries and narrow losses have dominated their season. Perhaps the Wings can get back on track with a few victories in a row.

Wings are back in the win column

It has been a challenging past few weeks for the Wings. Fortunately, Natasha Howard returned from her injury and she has played an impactful role since re-joining the rotation.

Ogunbowale endured an injury scare but only missed one game. She has continued to play at an All-Star level.

Maddy Siegrist unfortunately went down with an injury. She will be out for the foreseeable future.

Nevertheless, Dallas has displayed signs of turning things around. The young players are beginning to find their rhythm as the veterans lead the charge.

Head coach Latricia Trammell believes in this Wings team.

“I honestly just want it so bad for them,” Trammell said. “I love this group, I love this team, love this organization. It’s why I do what I do. When I see them be successful, that’s all I can ask for.”

The Wings will now travel to Seattle to play the Storm on Saturday and Monday. Dallas will then return home for two games against the Phoenix Mercury and Atlanta Dream.
