Golden State Warriors Announce Decision On Chris Paul's Contract

Golden State Warriors star Chris Paul has decided to do his team a contract favor ahead of the start of free agency.

According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Paul and the Warriors have agreed to move back the date on a guaranteed $30 million he's due on his 2024-25 contract. The move is reportedly part of an effort to give the Warriors "time to keep exploring trades."

"ESPN Sources: Golden State and Chris Paul intend to move back the date to guarantee the $30 million on his 2024-2025 contract to the start of free agency on Sunday. Deadline was originally today. This gives Warriors time to keep exploring trades," Woj wrote.

The 2023-24 season was the worst of Chris Paul's career as he hit career lows in nearly all categories while playing off the bench for most of the year. The Warriors went 46-36 in the regular season and were knocked out of the Play-In round by the Sacramento Kings.

But at 39 years of age, Paul appears determined to keep playing though that $30 million guarantee might be a bit of an albatross on any deal that might come to fruition.

Will the Warriors find a trade partner for Paul, or will this modification to Paul's contract wind up being for nothing?
