Despite allowing star guard Klay Thompson to leave in free agency, the Golden State Warriors still have all the respect in the world for his contributions to the team and made that clear in today's message.

Taking to X on Saturday, the Warriors declared that Thompson's legacy will "live on forever" at their franchise and that they intend to retire his No. 11 jersey someday. The team credited him with shaping their recent dynasty too.

"Klay's legacy will live on forever and we look forward to the day we can retire his #11 jersey at Chase Center, where he will join a host of Warriors immortals, including those who helped shape this recent dynasty—himself included," the team said.

Many fans praised the Warriors for giving Thompson the respect he deserved while others started wondering if he deserves his own statue:

"Was giving them until today at 6p eastern to retire 11 before I did something irrational. Mostly because they retired 35 within 30 seconds which is how long Kevin was on the team," one user declared.

"Steph and Klay should have their last game together! Don't know when, but that's how it is supposed to end," another lamented.

"He will have a statue he's a legend," a third wrote.

Klay Thompson helped the Warriors win four NBA titles during his decade-plus with the team. He was a five-time All-Star and an Olympic gold medalist while representing the team.

Now Thompson is reportedly off to the Dallas Mavericks for the next stage of his incredible career.
