Urban Meyer Makes His Opinion Of Texas QB Arch Manning Very Clear

Some college football fans have called for Arch Manning to replace Quinn Ewers after every incomplete pass for Texas this season. With the Cotton Bowl tonight, former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer offered his thoughts on Steve Sarkisian's quarterback situation.
During an appearance on "The Herd" this Friday, Meyer was asked if Sarkisian could possibly bench Ewers for Manning if his offense stumbles out of the gates against Ohio State. His response to that question was quite telling. Not only did he show support for Ewers, he made it clear that he's not ready to crown Manning as the next great college quarterback.
"Here's the thing about Arch, I think he's going to be a great player. I'm about to say something that I don't want to offend anybody (or imply) that he's not going to be a great player. He's going to be a great player. But when I watched – and I did, I went back and watched a bunch of his tape – it's not like he's overwhelming yet. It's not like he comes in the game and he just blows the doors off everybody else. I do believe Arch Manning, at some point, will be a high draft pick and all that, but that time is not now."
Meyer finished his answer by saying Ewers gives Texas the "best opportunity" to win against Ohio State.
It's not often that Meyer takes such a firm stance on a subject, but it's pretty evident that he's a believer in Ewers.
Manning has appeared in nine games for Texas this season. He has thrown for 939 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. While he would offer the Longhorns more mobility on offense, he doesn't have nearly as much big-game experience as Ewers.
Last week, Ewers had 322 passing yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Texas' double overtime win over Arizona State. We'll see if he can take his game to another level against Ohio State.
The Cotton Bowl will be televised on ESPN.
