Washington Spirit and USWNT forward Trinity Rodman, one of the bright young U.S. women's soccer stars, left Friday night's game with an apparent back injury.
According to reports, Rodman went down in the 75th minute after shielding the ball from Kansas City forward Temwa Chawinga. After laying on the ground momentarily while holding her back, she was treated by members of the Washington training staff and helped off the field.
Eventually Rodman was taken to the locker room in a wheelchair. KC Current analyst Jillian Carroll Letrinko reported the 22-year-old looked to be "in major pain."

Following the game, Spirit coach Jonatan Giráldez said Rodman felt something in her back. The good news is she was able to return to the bench with an ice pack on the area.
"I have no information now," Giráldez said. "Tri was on the bench in the end. She felt something in her back. .. But I have no information. Now is too soon. We have to come back tomorrow to Washington, and let's see there what happened and what is the availability for the players to play games in Los Angeles next week."
Rodman's agent Mike Senkowski told the Washington Post he's hopeful the 2024 Olympic gold medalist "avoided a very serious injury."
Rodman is currently tied for fourth in the NWSL with eight goals and is tied for second in the league with six assists.
At this summer's Olympics in Paris, she was a major contributor as the USWNT won the gold medal. Rodman scored three goals in the tournament, including the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Japan in the quarterfinals.
The Spirit's next game is set for next Friday, so we'll see if Rodman is available for that match against Angel City FC.
