NFL Week 1: What Happened On And Off The Field (1:28)

The Miami Dolphins have opened a condensed week without their two top running backs.

Following a Week 1 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Dolphins will host a Thursday Night Football clash against the Buffalo Bills. Their ground game could be hampered when facing their AFC East foes.

For the second straight day, the Dolphins listed De'Von Achane and Raheem Mostert on their injury report. Achane (ankle) and Mostert (chest) each missed Tuesday's practice.

The Dolphins ranked sixth in rushing offense last season, but they couldn't make much happen in Sunday's 20-17 victory over the Jaguars. They collectively produced 81 yards on 25 carries.

Achane amassed just 24 yards on 10 handoffs, but the second-year pro also caught all seven targets for 74 yards. The former third-round pick only needed 130 touches to tally 997 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns in 11 games last season.

Following injury-filled seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Mostert revived his career in Miami. He scored a resounding 21 touchdowns in his ninth NFL season but opened 2024 with only nine rushing yards.

If both players are sidelined, the Dolphins — and fantasy football managers — could turn to Jeff Wilson Jr. In 11 Sunday snaps, the former 49ers standout turned five carries into 26 yards.

Jaylen Wright didn't dress in Week 1, but the No. 120 pick could make his NFL debut if Achane or Mostert are inactive. Wright averaged 7.4 yards per carry at Tennessee last season.

Miami lost both of last season's meetings with Buffalo, including a Week 18 battle for the division title. Mike McDaniel will want all hands on deck for the pivotal Thursday Night Football game, which starts at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
