Tony Romo is one of the best announcers in the game, but the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback is often raked over the coals for any singular mistake.

It happened on Sunday. Romo, who played for the Cowboys from 2004-16, was on the call of the Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs game at Highmark Stadium in upstate New York. The Bills topped the Chiefs, 30-21, handing Andy Reid's team its first loss of the season. Josh Allen had a big game, as did his new No. 1 wide receiver Amari Cooper. He made two big catches for 55 yards, playing alongside Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel.

Cooper, of course, was traded from the Browns to the Bills prior to the trade deadline. But Tony Romo appeared to forget that.

Romo suggested that Cooper, who began his career in Oakland and later played in Dallas, was an offseason acquisition for the Buffalo Bills.

"Great job by Brandon Beane in the offseason, to go out and get a No. 1 player," Romo said on Sunday.

Romo has been ripped by NFL fans for his "embarrassing" mistake on Sunday afternoon. ESPN personality Chris "Mad Dog" Russo teed off on Romo on "First Take" on Wednesday.

"Can somebody tell my buddy, Tony Romo; Tony, they did not — Buffalo — get Amari Cooper at the offseason," said Russo. "They got him eight days ago. Tony told us that they acquired, 'What a great move by the GM.' They didn't get Amari Cooper in July! They got him a week ago at the deadline! He's doing the games for crying out loud.

"You can't make that mistake. This is national TV, football, that mistake cannot be made."

Romo did make a mistake, but they happen - often on ESPN's First Take, too. Romo and Nantz will be taking Week 12 off, before having two games to work during Week 13.

They'll be on the Thanksgiving Day game between the Lions and the Bears a week from tomorrow.
