Stephen A. Smith just can't avoid talking about hypothetically running for president.

Smith has been thrown out as a potential candidate for the Democrats in 2028, an idea he previously called an "indictment" of the current state of the party. Smith has said he has no intention of running for office, and yet he has no problem discussing it and even said this week he thinks he'd have an easy time winning the Democratic nomination.

During an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show this week, Smith said it would be a "cakewalk," to be exact.

"Do I believe that if I committed myself to knowing politics the way you and others know it, do I believe that I could win a Democratic nomination?" Smith said, via Awful Announcing. "Hell yes. Particularly the state of affairs that exist, I think it would be a cakewalk. I think I'd take them all out. I really, really believe that. I really think I could take them.

"And maybe in three years from now I'll feel a bit differently, I just can't imagine that's gonna happen. I'm not a politician…I'm no aficionado, but it's just so bad on the left right now. And I'll tell you, I do believe that I'd be a formidable candidate because I know I know how to debate, I would look forward to going up against folks on the right and the left and I would be about commonsense."

Listen, Smith can debate a chair about sports, but somehow we're doubtful it would be that easy for him to hold his own in a political forum.

Then again, Smith's former ESPN colleague Bomani Jones is a pretty smart dude, and he said on CNN last month he thinks Smith could more than hold his own discussing politics.

"To be fair to him and everybody else at this point, if I'm Stephen A. Smith and I look around, 'Why not me?' does seem like a fair question," Jones said. "But that is an indictment of not the Democrats, that is an indictment of everything much broader. But bless the hearts of anybody that tries to get on television and argue with that man about anything. I'm telling you right now, you are probably going to lose. I might not lose, you're gonna lose."

Of course, that doesn't mean Smith would actually win a primary or general election, which Jones knows. The fact we're even discussing this is insane, but so was the idea of Donald Trump winning the presidency twice if you brought it up 10 years ago.
