If you thought college football teams would lose their competitive spirit just because it's the holiday season, we've got some rough news for you.

Prior to kickoff for the GameAbove Sports Bowl this Thursday afternoon, Pitt and Toledo got involved in a scuffle. According to Chris Vannini of The Athletic, this altercation occurred in the tunnel leading onto the field. It didn't take long for that tension to spill over to their pregame warm-ups.

"Pitt and Toledo players exchanged some words in the Pitt end zone during warmups and had to be broken up by the officials," Karl Ludwig of Pittsburgh Sports Now said. "There's certainly no lack of intensity here."

From a viewer's standpoint, it's a good thing Pitt and Toledo brought the energy this Thursday afternoon. The last thing fans want to see is a lackluster showing on the gridiron.

Toledo jumped out to a lead in the GameAbove Sports Bowl thanks to a touchdown pass from Tucker Gleason to Anthony Torres. The junior quarterback for the Rockets is off to an efficient start so far. He completed 8-of-10 pass attempts in the first quarter for 82 yards.

Pitt has responded nicely in large part because of running back Desmond Reid. He already has 41 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

There are two additional bowl games on the schedule this Thursday. In a few hours, Rutgers and Kansas State will square off in the Rate Bowl. As for the LendingTree Bowl between Arkansas State and Bowling Green, kickoff will be at 9 p.m. ET.

For now, the spotlight is firmly on Pitt and Toledo. Hopefully, they deserve an instant classic at Ford Field.
