Whether it is prime time on a Sunday night or 11 a.m. on a Monday, Rob Gronkowski is going to bring the same infectious energy. With the Boston Marathon underway, the beloved New England Patriots tight end gave the people what they want when he threw the first pitch at the Boston Red Sox-Cleveland Guardians game.

Gronkowski transported Fenway Park to a 201os Patriots matchup, as he spiked the baseball instead of throwing it to the catcher, via The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov. Naturally, the crowd erupted in approval and nostalgia. The future Hall of Famer looked exceptionally pleased with himself as well.

Although he has been known to get a bit overzealous or unhinged on the football field, Gronkowski clearly fancies himself an entertainer. His personality does not feel like a shtick, however. There is a fine line between a wacky character and walking punchline, but Gronkowski’s authenticity allows him to resonate with the public. Particularly New Englanders.

While the Super Bowl championships and illustrious accolades definitely elevate him, these lively shenanigans have the name “Gronk” embedded in sports culture. On a day that will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all Boston residents, spreading this type of joy carries even more significance than usual.

Rob Gronkowski hoped to give Red Sox a jolt vs. Guardians

The Red Sox (9-8) were coming off back-to-back wins over the Los Angeles Angels before falling to the Guardians, 6-0, on this momentous occasion. Boston has been playing a morning game on Patriots’ Day for half a century. The pride of the city beams off the Green Monster, with players and coaches of both clubs understanding the importance of this tradition.

The Boston Marathon, the game and the holiday itself have carried a different tone following the domestic terrorist attack in 2013 known as the Boston Marathon bombing. These annual events now commemorate those who were killed, wounded and traumatized from this horrific tragedy.

The outcome of a baseball game is secondary, but the Sox bonded people and transcended the diamond during their 2013 World Series run. Is it possible that this current iteration of the franchise can evoke feelings of passion and emotion from the community?

As fans’ contempt for ownership grows, this group has the potential to become a riveting underdog story in 2024. That will require Boston to win 87-90 games in a deep American League that got the best of the team in the second half of last season. Although this is undoubtedly a grueling task to achieve, there could be enough breakouts on the roster to stun the baseball world.

Injuries, defense and perhaps even logic threaten to prevent a fairy-tale run from coming to fruition. But the promise on this team is evident. At the very least, though, hopefully these Red Sox can show everyone a good time. Following a dismal recent stretch that has seen multiple homegrown stars exit, and local interest decline, the value of such a mission cannot be overstated.

Including Rob Gronkowski in the Patriots’ Day festivities is a nice way to start.
