After leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a convincing win over the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday, quarterback Patrick Mahomes was presented with a special postgame gift by the organizers at Netflix. But he turned it down.

In his postgame interview on the field, Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce were presented with football-shaped cakes to celebrate.

"I'd like for you to go ahead, pick 'em up, and they are a little bit heavy, but you can open them up," the interviewer said.

Kelce instantly noted that the inside was made of red velvet cake.

"Oh, yeah! Look at that. A little red velvet," Kelce said.

But while Kelce was happy to take a bite out of the rich dessert, Mahomes balked. He said that he was trying to watch his weight ahead of the playoffs.

"I'm watching my weight for playoffs," Mahomes said.

When Kelce offered to bring the cake to the locker room, Mahomes suggested that Kelce offer it to head coach Andy Reid, who is known for his love of all things food-related.

"Coach Reid's ready for it. I'll take it to him," he joked.

The past few weeks have been downright excellent for Patrick Mahomes. He's led the team to six straight wins with his last three all coming by double digits and three of those wins over playoff contenders.

Yesterday's win also sealed up a first-round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs for the Chiefs, allowing them to rest for as much as several weeks before they have to play serious football again.

But perhaps most importantly for Mahomes, his wife is expecting to give birth to their third baby sometime over the next month, likely right before their Divisional Round playoff game.

What's craziest about the whole thing is that Mahomes isn't even having his best year. Despite the team's 15-1 record - a franchise record for single-season wins - Mahomes is having the lowest touchdown rate and the lowest passing yards per game of his career.

But they're winning games and that's the most important thing. The question is: Can they win three more in January and February?
