WVU is looking for a new head coach after firing Neal Brown once the regular season ended. The Mountaineers finished 6-6 this year, a step down from last year when they finished 9-4.
Brown was the head coach for six seasons, compiling a 37-35 record. He finished 500 or better in four of the six seasons he was the head coach and helped the Mountaineers win the Dukes Mayo Bowl last year.
Still, the Mountaineers expect more from their program, which is why they let Brown go and are looking at other candidates.
Hartline has never been a head coach in college football but has been with the Buckeyes for the last seven years. He started his tenure as their offensive quality control assistant before transitioning to being their wide receivers coach.
He then added co-offensive coordinator to his resume and has a big role in how the offense looks each week.
The Mountaineers are also interviewing other candidates for the position so time will tell if Hartline advances to the next stage or if he gets the job.
The Mountaineers will play the Memphis Tigers in the Frisco Bowl next Tuesday, December 17 while the Buckeyes play the Tennesee Volunteers in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
