Daniel Jones has reportedly crossed one team off his list of potential suitors.
The former New York Giants quarterback is a free agent after clearing waivers on Monday afternoon. He threw eight touchdowns with a 79.4 quarterback rating in 10 games before getting benched and released by the organization that drafted him No. 6 overall in 2019.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport mentioned the Las Vegas Raiders as a possible landing spot on Sunday. However, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports said Mondy that Jones "eliminated" the Raiders from consideration.
Fans joked about Jones allegedly turning down Las Vegas as he seeks a new team for the final seven weeks.
"The Raiders are so bad that Daniel Jones said he'll pass," Lindsey Ok wrote.
"Getting turned down by Daniel Jones would have to be a particularly low point in the history of any franchise," Conor Sheeran said.
"Wait, he realizes they're not a UFL team, right?" a fan asked.
"Daniel Jones not trying to go from one dumpster fire to another," Evan Groat speculated.
"Daniel Jones knows a trash organization when he sees one," Eric Peck declared.
Barring an injury to another starting quarterback, the Raiders may present Jones his best opportunity to play again this season. They're down to Aidan O'Connell and Desmond Rider after Gardner Minshew suffered a season-ending broken collarbone in Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Denver Broncos.
However, Jones may not want to join a 2-9 team right after leaving another one. The Raiders wouldn't provide much of an upgraded supporting cast, especially after trading Davante Adams, and struggling with another organization could hurt his future outlook.
Perhaps that's why Jones reportedly prefers to join a playoff contender. Rapoport mentioned the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, and ESPN's Adam Schefter floated the Minnesota Vikings.
Schultz added the Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins when claiming there's "significant interest" in Jones. If that's the case, he can afford to rule out an unfavorable landing spot and carefully choose his next team.
