Drake Maye and the New England Patriots ended the 2024 season with a victory, but there was little to write home about from a team perspective this season.
The rookie quarterback played well after becoming the starter and showed flashes in his first season, but the Patriots were far from playoff contention. The team finished with a 4-13 record for the second straight season, a sign that their rebuild is far from over.
Despite a frustrating 2024 season, there's a lot of optimism surrounding the current offseason. The team has hired Mike Vrabel as head coach, and there's a real belief that Maye is the quarterback of the future.
The former North Carolina quarterback announced some personal news on Wednesday, sharing that he and his longtime girlfriend are now engaged.
"Love doing life with you. Can't wait to marry you!," the quarterback said in his post, sharing photos of his proposal to his girlfriend Ann Michael Hudson.
Maye and Hudson have been together since 2015, and continued their relationship during their time at North Carolina. Hudson's brother briefly played on UNC's football team as Maye's backup quarterback.
Hudson attended the 2024 NFL Draft with Maye when he was selected by New England, and she's been in attendance at several games this season to support him.
The quarterback's NFL connections were established before he set foot on a professional field. He grew up with Tennessee Titans quarterback Mason Rudolph, as both of their fathers played football at North Carolina. He's also good friends with former North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell, who now plays for the Seattle Seahawks.
Maye's personal news comes after he completed his first NFL season with the Patriots. He began the season as a backup to Jacoby Brissett, but was eventually elevated to the starting role.
New England struggled as a team with a limited roster this season, but Maye often kept them in games with timely plays, showing why he deserved to be the No. 3 overall pick in last year's draft.
We'll see what the future holds for Maye and the Patriots on the football field going forward, but it appears that he'll be married soon after the engagement news on Wednesday.
