Deion Sanders Announces Decision On The Cowboys Job

Deion Sanders and the Dallas Cowboys have mutual interest following the ousting of head coach Mike McCarthy.
The Cowboys parted ways with the Super Bowl-winning head coach on Monday. McCarthy, who had been the Cowboys head coach since 2020, was ousted following a 7-10 season in 2024. The Cowboys had made the playoffs in each of the previous three seasons, winning 12 games in all three years. But the Cowboys struggled to perform in 2024 and McCarthy, who was coaching on an expiring contract, will not return.
Several big names have been floated for the Cowboys gig. Deion Sanders, who starred in Dallas during his NFL career, has reportedly already spoken with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about the gig.
But Deion Sanders made it clear on Monday evening that he's already made up his mind.
Deion Sanders says that he loves it too much at Colorado to leave for the NFL.
"To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it's intriguing," Sanders told Adam Schefter of ESPN. "I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up and process it, and think about it, it's intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community."
Coach Prime, who has been at Colorado since the 2023 season, led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 year in 2024. The Buffaloes lost to BYU in the Alamo Bowl and lose Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the National Football League.
Jones, meanwhile, is now undergoing a full search for a new head coach. He's thankful for McCarthy's time in Dallas, too.
"Throughout Mike McCarthy's tenure here, including the last several weeks, I have been very complimentary of the job he has done," Jones said. "That has applied to our record over that time period, our team unity and culture, Mike's qualifications and track record of success, and on a personal level as a tremendous human being. I have great respect for Mike, and he has led the team through some very unique and challenging times during his tenure."
