In the southern part of the United States, there are few things bigger than college football and stock car racing. Hundreds of thousands of fans pack stadiums and speedways in the region each week, and the sports often cross paths with one another.

Several cars in NASCAR's history have featured college paint schemes, from William Byron's Liberty cars to Greg Biffle's Florida A&M machine. The tradition has even extended to coaches, with multi-time Super Bowl winner Joe Gibbs running a championship-winning NASCAR Cup Series team.

One driver in the Truck Series is the latest to combine football and racing, and his new helmet is a great example of the synergy between the two sports.

Spire Motorsports driver Chase Purdy unveiled his special Ole Miss racing helmet, designed to look like the one the Rebels wear on the field on Saturdays.

The helmet features Realtree camo in a Ole Miss color pattern, giving Purdy a striking look for Friday evening's race at Talladega. Purdy may not be one of the eight playoff drivers remaining in the Truck Series title race, but he's looking to finish the 2024 season strong.

The 24-year-old from Alabama has improved each year he's been in the Truck Series, earning a career-best finish of 11th last season. In 2024, he's had five top-ten finishes, with a season-best of third at Martinsville in the spring.

Only four races remain in the Truck Series season, which will end at the same time as the Xfinity and Cup Series seasons. All three series will culminate at one final race in early November in Phoenix to determine their champions.

With last year's champion Ben Rhodes failing to qualify for the top eight, a new Truck Series champion will be crowned this season.

There's an opportunity for a new young driver to cement themselves as a future star this season, and we'll see which Truck series star can become that household name.

For Purdy, it's all about finishing strong and carrying momentum into next season. He's got the look down with his new helmet, and he'll attempt to accompany it with a good finish on Friday at Talladega.
