Meet Maddie Scherr - One Of Women's College Basketball's Next Breakout Stars (1:21)

Hailey Van Lith is heading to TCU this season, but she isn't the only notable transfer to make their way to the program. The Horned Frogs have also added a starter from the SEC in Maddie Scherr.

Scherr, a Kentucky native, spent the last two seasons with the Wildcats. She started 55 games for Kentucky, averaging a career-high 12.5 points per game last season.

Scherr has increased her scoring output in each of her four college seasons, starting out with her first two years at Oregon.

This season, Scherr will be at TCU with an experienced group of teammates, and the team is expected to contend for the Big 12 championship. She celebrated the new season with a few photos on her Instagram account.

"Purple has always been my favorite color," she said, showing off the team's away uniform.

The Horned Frogs are looking to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010, which was also the last season the team won a conference title. That year, they won the regular season title in the Mountain West before losing to Dayton in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Scherr joins another former McDonald's All-American in Hailey Van Lith. Van Lith is also at her third destination following stints at Louisville and LSU.

Van Lith led Louisville to the Final Four as a sophomore, and also competed in this summer's Olympic games as part of the United States 3x3 women's basketball team in Paris.

Van Lith's lone season at LSU ended with a tough defensive performance in her final game against Caitlin Clark and Iowa, but she's arriving at TCU with a clean slate.

Van Lith and Scherr should have the opportunity to flourish at TCU as experienced guards. They're likely to return to the focused offensive roles they had at Kentucky and Louisville, making TCU a difficult opponent to deal with this season.

The Horned Frogs are set to start the 2024-25 season on November 5 against Houston Baptist.
