There was a rather scary moment during the qualifying round of the upcoming Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix as Williams Racing driver Franco Colapinto crashed into a wall while driving nearly 200 miles per hour.

The crash occurred during last night's second qualifying round. After setting the ninth-fastest score in the first qualifying round to make it through to the second round, the front left wheel of Colapinto's FW46 car made contact with a wall, causing it to lose control and smash into a wall. The force he hit the wall with was reportedly around 50G.

Colapinto had to be taken to the medical room for an evaluation, but appeared to be alright. In a statement released a short while ago, Williams Racing announced that Colapinto has been medically cleared and will race in tonight's Las Vegas Grand Prix. He will be forced to start in the pit lane.

"Following Franco's incident in qualifying yesterday, he has undergone a thorough follow-up evaluation from the event medical team today and has been cleared to race in this evening's Las Vegas Grand Prix," the organization said in their statement, via Formula1.com.

"Franco's health is our main priority, and we are relieved that he is well enough to race following such a significant incident. We thank the medical staff for prioritising Franco's health and wellbeing and for the excellent care he received.

"We are extremely thankful to our incredible garage team for their hard work overnight to repair Franco's car and our fans and partners for their continued support. We have taken the opportunity to make some set-up changes during the repair and, as a result, Franco will start the race from the pitlane.

"We are looking forward to going racing under the lights tonight."

Colapinto joined Williams midway through the 2024 Formula One Championship season after the team decided to part way with American driver Logan Sargeant following 15 races without a single point. He promptly proved to be more adept with the car, securing five points in his first four races.

Will Colapinto be able to overcome last night's accident and secure more points for Williams in Las Vegas tonight?
