The Dallas Cowboys are going to be without one of their starting wide receivers for at least the next few weeks.

On Saturday, Dallas placed veteran Brandin Cooks on injured reserve, meaning he'll be out the next four games. Cooks recently developed an infection in his right knee after undergoing a procedure in New York following the Cowboys' 20-15 win over the Giants on Sept. 26.

The Cowboys had previously said that Cooks would be out at least this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but clearly the team is being more cautious with him long-term as well.

"The upcoming bye does not count as time missed and [Cooks] will be eligible to return Nov. 10," said ESPN's Todd Archer.

Cooks has started all four games for Dallas this season, catching nine passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. He's been one of the team's three first-string wideouts, along with star CeeDee Lamb and third-year pro Jalen Tolbert.

With Cooks missing time, Dallas could give more runway to KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Brooks, who have combined for eight catches, 107 yards and a touchdown on 15 targets through four games.

Ryan Fluornoy is the only other wide receiver on the Cowboys' roster, while the team also has Kelvin Harmon and Jalen Cropper on its practice squad.

This week, Dallas had been linked to Davante Adams following the six-time Pro Bowler's trade request, but the Cowboys reportedly won't be pursuing the Las Vegas Raiders standout.
