College football is exciting for the play on the field, but many fans also enjoy the pageantry and tradition that comes with the sport as well.

Marching bands play a big role in that pageantry, providing the soundtrack for hundreds of schools around the country. Each band has its own particular sound, structure and style, bringing a unique element to every game.

North Carolina State and Wake Forest were opponents on the field Saturday, but the two teams' matching bands joined forces for a special moment.

The Wolfpack and Demon Deacons bands' played Amazing Grace during halftime on Saturday as a tribute to those who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina.

"We are deeply saddened by the devastation and loss of life caused by Helene," Wake Forest president Susan R. Wente said in a statement this week.

"We recognize that many members of the Wake Forest family — our students, faculty, staff, alumni and their loved ones — are facing tremendous challenges in the storm's aftermath."

North Carolina State has directed its relief efforts to other universities in the state, such as Appalachian State, UNC Asheville and Western Carolina.

"I'm really surprised and happy at the response of the community," said defensive end Davin Vann.

"It really makes my heart feel good to see the Wolfpack community come through in this way to help people in need."

The two teams treated fans to a great game on the field, with Wake Forest taking home the 34-30 win in Raleigh. Wake scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take the lead after trailing 30-20 with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Wake Forest improved to 2-3 with the win over their ACC opponents, while North Carolina State dropped to 3-3 after the loss.

The Wolfpack will host Syracuse in another ACC conference matchup, while Wake Forest will be visited by the Clemson Tigers.
