CBS Announces Decision On College Football Announcer Gary Danielson

The 2025 season will be the final one on the air for longtime CBS Sports college football announcer Gary Danielson.
On Wednesday, Danielson announced he's retiring from the booth following this upcoming season, which will be his 20th with CBS. The former Purdue and NFL quarterback began his broadcasting career at ESPN in 1990 and spent 16 seasons at the Worldwide Leader and ABC before making the jump to CBS in 2006. He is currently the longest-tenured college football game analyst on any network.
"I have had the greatest seat in the house for 36 years and have loved every minute of it," Danielson said in a press release. "I have discussed the timing of this moment with CBS Sports leadership over the past few years and we felt it was important I remained with the team during our transition to the Big Ten. As we enter our second full season of Big Ten football and my 20th at CBS Sports, the timing just feels right."
Danielson will be replaced in the booth by Charles Davis, who has called NFL games for CBS since 2020 and also has experience as an NFL and college football analyst for FOX.
"I have so much respect for Charles Davis as both a person and an analyst," Danielson said. "He is going to shine in this role and fit so well with this team. I have been blessed to work with incredible teammates throughout my career and I look forward to one more memorable season with Brad, Jenny, Craig Silver, Steve Milton and the crew."
SEC fans got to know Danielson intimately for nearly two decades as the color commentator for the "SEC on CBS" alongside Verne Lundquist and later Brad Nessler.
Last season, as the SEC moved to ESPN, CBS began its partnership with the Big Ten, broadcasting the league's marquee Saturday game.
In his final season, Danielson will remain in his role as analyst for CBS' Big Ten Game of the Week, working with Nessler and sideline reporter Jenny Dell.
