Deion Sanders has helped lead an impressive turnaround at Colorado over the last two years, taking the 1-win team he inherited and turning them into a conference championship contender.

The Buffaloes are 7-2 this season and they're in the hunt for the Big 12 championship, but many fans and analysts have explored the idea of Sanders leaving to coach in the NFL next season.

The Dallas Cowboys are a popular choice as one of Sanders' former teams, dealing with coaching issues of their own during a dreadful start to the season.

During Friday's episode of ESPN's "First Take," former Heisman trophy winner and NFL MVP Cam Newton weighed in on the discussion.

Newton said that he thinks Sanders should consider taking another job, but he mentioned one that's likely to open at the college level instead of professionally.

Newton disagreed with the notion that Sanders should go to the Cowboys and influence the team to draft his son Sheduer at quarterback, and then said that Sanders may be better off staying in college.

"I will tell you what's a good look for Prime: Florida State University," Newton said, referencing Sanders' alma mater.

"It makes the most sense. Because, not only would you have time to build a foundation, you have more resources than, respectfully, Colorado."

Newton then said that Sanders could come to Florida State and "build a legacy," becoming one of the all-time greats like longtime Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden.

"I don't think he would have the same time frame in Dallas. Mike McCarthy, four years, on the bubble," Newton said.

"In this day and age, everything has changed. We want right now, we want results, but we don't have time to wait for nothing anymore. We want a Thanksgiving meal with microwave resources."

Jerry Jones has been clear about his expectations for the Cowboys, and they're highly unlikely to change with a new head coach.

Sanders has also said that he would prefer to stay at the college level because he has a more old-school mentality.

His style of coaching is working for Colorado, and the Buffaloes will hope that it leads to the team's eighth win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Utah.
