The St. Louis Cardinals won the series’ first game on Monday night, but a Tuesday night postponement set the stage for a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. We’ll look at the second game on Wednesday night. Both teams had separate starts to the season, with the Cardinals struggling out of the gate and the Braves playing well. However, injuries to significant Braves players have sent them 7.5 games back of the Phillies in the National League East. The Cardinals crawled back into the National League Central race and are now 5.5 games back. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a Braves-Cardinals prediction and pick.

Why The Braves Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Braves have caught fire again in their quest to gain ground on the Phillies. They’ve lost two of their last three games but won six of their previous seven before that. Winning two of three games at Yankee Stadium is a big confidence boost for a team without their star, Ronald Acuna Jr., for the rest of the season. The Braves have made a World Series run without him before, and they could do it again if they get into the Wild Card.

If Elder can perform to the same level as Pallante, the Braves bullpen should get it the rest of the way. They have a 3.02 ERA over the last three games, while the Cardinals’ bullpen has a 6.58.

Why The Cardinals Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Braves haven’t performed well against right-handed pitching over their last ten games. They are batting .233 with a .284 on-base percentage and an average of 4.2 runs/nine.

The Braves originally planned to start Chris Sale in this game but decided to move his start to Thursday. It’s a welcome development for the Cardinals, as they hit 35 points better against righties and would’ve been battling against one of the best lefties in the game.

The Cardinals are batting .251 against righties and .250 at home with on-base percentages above .300. It makes this the perfect scenario for them to generate plenty of offense.

Final Braves-Cardinals Prediction & Pick

It seems like the line for this game hasn’t adjusted since the news that Sale won’t be having his start. Elder has a whopping 2.08 WHIP on the road this season and allowed 15 earned runs over 11 2/3 innings.

Pallante is a different case, as it’s a tale of two pitchers. In two starts against the Astros and Giants, Pallante allowed 11 earned runs over 8 1/3 innings. In two against the Cubs and Rockies, he allowed one earned run in 8 1/3 innings.

The Cardinals bullpen has also been atrocious over their last three games, owning a 6.58 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP. The number on the total will increase as we get closer to game time, so it’d be wise to get these bets in before they do.
