The Dallas Cowboys are one of two teams that don't have a head coach right now.

They parted ways with Mike McCarthy on January 13 and have been interviewing candidates over the last week, including offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Schottenheimer has been seen as the favorite for the job over the last couple of days but according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, nothing is done yet.

"It's hard to tell because I think one guy determines that and one guy can change his mind at any moment. One guy can wake up today and say, 'You know what? I know we've done a lot of work into Brian Schottenheimer but I feel like Deion Sanders or Jason Witten would be for the best for this organization. Again, I don't know what Jerry Jones is going to be feeling today," Schefter said

"I think they spent a lot of time on Brian Schottenheimer and I think that makes a lot of sense on a lot of levels. But ultimately, one guy is going to make this decision and until he makes a decision, we don't know exactly what direction this is going to go."

The Cowboys are taking their time with this search, making sure that they get the right guy.

They've had conversations with Colorado head coach Deion Sanders but no formal interview. They've also spoken with former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

Owner Jerry Jones is the one calling the shots in this search since he runs the team. He makes all of the personnel decisions since he's also the general manager.

The Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw them go 7-10 and miss the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
