Dozens of people are dead and several more have been injured from a man driving a car into a huge crowd near a local sports center in China. 

Zhuhai, a city in southern China, is dealing with a massive tragedy on Tuesday. A 62-year-old man reportedly drove his car into a huge crowd of people near a local sports center. Thirty five people were killed and at least 43 people were injured. A huge crowd had developed, as people were exercising outside near a local sports center. Authorities have been unable to release much information on the tragic accident. 

The 62-year-old man was believed to be upset about something that had happened in his personal life. He initially tried to flee the scene, but was ultimately apprehended. 

The driver was only identified only by his surname, Fan. He tried to flee the scene, according to the Zhuhai Public Security Bureau, but was apprehended and taken to a local hospital. Fan is believed to have been upset due to a divorce settlement that didn't go his way. 

Chinese leader Xi Jinping responded to the tragedy, calling the incident "extremely serious."

"We must severely punish the murderer in accordance with the law," he said, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
