The NCAA announced Tuesday that USC has been out on probation for "on- and off-field coaching" violations.

The Trojans were found to have utilized eight analysts in coaching positions in 2022 and 2023, more than NCAA regulations at the time allowed. As a result, the program was placed on a one-year probation and fined $50,000. Overall, the penalties aren't overwhelming, but they are the latest blow in what has been a nightmare season for the Trojans.

Expected to contend for the Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff berth, USC is instead 4-5 and needing two wins in its final three games just to secure bowl eligibility.

Head coach Lincoln Riley's seat is heating up, though most Trojans fans seem to be angrier at the NCAA over its new punishment than they are at the USC program.

"So let me get this straight—the NCAA changes the rule to allow unlimited analysts, yet turns around and penalizes USC for having too many analysts involved during practice and on the field. Now, USC is on a one-year probation. You can't make this up. Meanwhile, other schools are getting away with clear violations, and the NCAA just looks the other way," one USC fan lamented.

"Seems kinda funny the USC announced throwback jerseys at the same time that Lincoln Riley and his team got put on probation," another person commented.

"While this is news, is the NCAA just never going to drop Michigan's punishment?" asked a third person.

"USC Football is being put on probation for having an extra analyst at practice during the 2022 season. The rules of the amount of analyst allowed at practice was changed in 2023…. Other colleges film opponents games, dress as their coaching staff and are not punished. This is the most USC/NCAA thing to happen since 2011," a second USC fan complained, referencing Michigan in the process.

"Basically a tax from the NCAA," another commenter added.

In the middle of a rough week, USC will look to salvage things a bit when they host Nebraska on Saturday afternoon.
