Paredes The Hero In OT Win

It took a little bit of extra time but the Stampeders ended the Winnipeg Blue Bombers six-game head-to-head win streak with a 22-19 overtime win at McMahon Stadium on Saturday night.

Veteran Rene Paredes kicked the 52-yard game winner after a Demerio Houston interception in the endzone.

Jake Maier found Marken Michel for the lone Stampeders touchdown of the evening.

The Stampeders are now 2-1 on the season while the Bombers fall to 0-4.

After trading two-and-outs to start the game it was the Bombers that found the scoreboard first with a short field goal to make the score 3-0.

The Stamps grabbed a field goal of their own from 47-yards out on the first play of the second-quarter to even the score 3-3.

Defensive tackle Clarence Hicks picked off Zach Collaros on Winnipeg’s next drive. However, the Stamps were unsuccessful on third down and turned the ball over.

Cam Judge came up with a big sack on second down on the next possession leading to a Bombers punt.

Calgary added a single on a punt to make the score 4-3 Stampeders just under half-way through the second quarter.

The Bombers punched through another three points with 3:38 to go in the half and regained the lead, 6-4.

Winnipeg picked-off Jake Maier on the very next play leading to another field-goal to make the score 9-4.

The Stamps tacked on a field goal from 25-yards out with no time left on the clock in the half to make it 9-7 Bombers after two quarters.

Bombers QB Chris Streveler took over for the Blue and Gold in the second half following an injury to Collaros in the middle of the second quarter.

Calgary put together a couple of nice passes on their first drive of the second-half resulting in a 43-yard field goal to give the Stampeders the 10-9 lead.

Cody Grace bombed a 79-yard punt single to extend the Stamps lead to 11-9, and wrapped up the third quarter.

The Stampeders got into the red-zone on their first drive of the fourth quarter and scored the first major of the game on a pass from Maier to Marken Michel to make the score 18-9 with 12:15 to go.

The Bombers hit a 60-yard field goal with 9:24 remaining to make the score 18-12.

Grace added his third punt-single of the game to put the Red and White up seven, 19-12.

Calgary stopped a Bombers drive dead in its tracks on third-down with 2:39 remaining taking the ball over deep in their own territory but had to punt the ball away giving Winnipeg one final chance.

The Blue Bombers took over on offence with 1:34 remaining and they would drive the field finishing off their first touchdown drive of the night with a 16-yard touchdown pass to make the score 19-19 with 37-seconds remaining.

The Stampeders ran out the remainder of the clock and this one was off to overtime.

Winnipeg got the ball first in overtime, but Demerio Houston got his second interception of the 2024 campaign against his former team in the endzone to give the Stamps a chance for the win.

Calgary was unable to get a first down with their possession and brought out Rene Parades who drilled a 52-yard field-goal to win the game, tying his longest game-winner.
