Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

For the past few months, tension has been high in The New Day. We may never know what the original plan was for Odyssey Jones being inserted into the picture as a pseudo replacement for Big E (aka Big O), but it’s clear the issues between Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston are continuing.

This week on WWE Raw, they lost another shot at the World Tag Team Championship. Afterward, Woods was upset with the Latino World Order for getting involved, as he had asked several others (Jey Uso, Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley) to stay back. Unbeknownst to him, Kingston had specifically requested LWO’s assistance. Not being a part of Kofi’s plan (though hypocritically not telling him what he had done, most likely) upset Woods, and it’s looking more likely than ever before that The New Day may split up.

My question for you today is “Is it time for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to go their separate ways and for The New Day to end?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

No teams stay together forever in wrestling. It doesn’t matter how successful a faction is, how tightly-knit a brotherly duo might be, or whatever bonds keep them together—they inevitably split.

So far, The New Day hasn’t, and there’s a big chunk of me that wants to keep it that way. That in and of itself would be another record that few, if any, other teams could say they did. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any teams that were together for anywhere close to this long without breaking up, as the only examples I can think of were much more short-lived (Authors of Pain so far) or didn’t reach anywhere near the significance (like The Bushwhackers).

Plus, I don’t think WWE would particularly push either of them in a singles capacity. Kingston was already world champion and won’t be in that position again, unfortunately. Woods is massively underrated, in my opinion, but even though I’d make the argument that he’s had all the tools to be a top guy for years, I’d still have to be realistic and admit that he probably wouldn’t even win the Intercontinental or United States Championship any time soon if he were to break into the singles division. Look at how Jey Uso hasn’t been able to do that despite how popular he’s been.

I would rather see a scenario, if at all possible, where they continue to have issues and the real lynch pin of them all ends up just being as simple as they spelled it out this week: Big E returns. Ideally, he’s healthy enough that he can return to in-ring action. However, his safety is a bigger deal than my fandom, so if that’s not possible, I’ll gladly take him being their manager who accompanies them to the ring.

If they do have to split up and feud with one another, I hope WWE gives their storyline enough focus that it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle and pushed to the side. I don’t want to see Woods versus Kingston as some 3 minute throwaway segment on a random episode of Raw where it’s a bigger deal to see recap footage of something CM Punk did earlier in the night or whatever. That would just spit on the whole thing. They don’t necessarily have to fight for the first time at WrestleMania, but I’d like for it to be a big deal, considering how great of a tag team they’ve been for as long as they’ve been together. It should be more like when The Rockers broke up and less like when The Miz and John Morrison went their separate ways the first time. There’s a reference for you and an insight into how much I valued that team that it stands out to me as a huge deal.

Overall, my vote is no, The New Day should not break up. But if it has to happen, I want it to actually mean something and be treated with the proper level of importance.
