Mariah May retained the AEW Women’s World Championship over Yuka Sakazaki in the penultimate match on AEW Grand Slam 2024. Following the match, May was about to continue the beat down on Sakazaki, until Willow Nightingale came out to make the save.

Standing up to the champion and ready for a fight, Nightingale stood between May and Sakazaki up until an inadvertent distraction caused her to turn around. This was the entrance music of Mina Shirakawa coming out, allowing May an opportunity to hit Nightingale from behind and run out of the ring toward Shirakawa, who was confused, not seemingly intending to have this influence over the situation.

May embraced the confused Shirakawa and ran off as Sakazaki tried to go back on the attack for some revenge. Shirakawa remained flabbergasted as the segment came to a close.

In all likelihood, we’ll see Mariah May and Mina Shirakawa teaming up against Willow Nightingale and Yuka Sakazaki on an upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite—possibly even next week’s five-year anniversary. That will probably also lead to Willow Nightingale getting an eventual shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship in a future match against Mariah May.

At the time of this publication, neither of those matches have been confirmed, but stay tuned to eWrestlingNews for any future announcements of the sort.
