Adam Copeland’s new name ‘Cope’ may have come as a surprise to fans, but the name has been in the works for the Canadian for a long time.

The Rated-R Superstar was introduced as Cope during this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, where he and FTR defeated The Death Riders.

As recently shared on social media, Cope actually shared last year with Renee Paquette that he wanted to work under the shorter name. He said,

“I’m trying to little by little, segue it to Cope. Because the Rated-R Superstar Adam Copeland is very wordy. I’m thinking if I’m looking at a marquee, I go ‘Ooh! Cope vs. Mox!'”

Cope will be in action during this week’s edition of AEW Collision, where he will team with FTR to take on Chris Jericho and the Inner Circle.

Cope wrestled for years as Edge in WWE before arriving in AEW in October 2023, where he had been wrestling under his real name until this week.
