Chris Jericho – 'Pro Wrestling Could Easily Be An Olympic Sport'

Chris Jericho takes pride in his profession and is unafraid to share his often controversial opinions.

As a veteran wrestling personality, Jericho firmly believes that professional wrestling deserves a place in the Olympic Games.

For decades, professional wrestling has struggled to gain recognition in the broader sports world due to common misconceptions about its scripted nature and its identity as a scripted performance art.

On a recent edition of the “Blocks” podcast, Jericho proposed that professional wrestling could be considered for the Olympics, similar to sports judged on points, such as figure skating or synchronized swimming.

The former AEW World Champion emphasized that the athletic prowess displayed by pro wrestlers is a significant factor that could make pro wrestling a legitimate contender as an Olympic sport.

Jericho said, "I've started to really think about how pro wrestling could easily be an Olympic sport, because it's a athletic display between two people, much like figure skating or synchronized swimming or anything else that's judged on points. Think about that. So let's say I'm from Canada. Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, best wrestlers from Canada. We put together our routine, and then you got you know, Will Ospreay and Michael Oku from England. They put together their routine.”

He continued, Then you got you know Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, from the United States putting together their routine. Then the judges would say, 'Okay, this was the best,' It doesn't matter who wins or loses. Like figure skating."
