Carmelo Hayes Cried When Kelani Jordan Won NXT Women's North American Title

Carmelo Hayes was over the moon when his girlfriend Kelani Jordan became the first WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion last month.

Jordan won a six-woman ladder match at WWE NXT: Battleground to win the gold after previously winning a qualifying match to advance to the event.

At the WWE Money In The Bank 2024 media junket, Hayes was asked to recall his reaction to Jordan’s monumental victory. He said,

“I was at home on the couch, and, you know, I had no idea. I didn’t know. So I’m sitting watching. I’m thinking as she’s climbing. I’m like, oh, that’s a good little help, you know, a good little almost. I’m thinking somebody’s going to rip her off. She grabbed the title, and I jumped up.

“I cried. I actually cried tears of joy. I’ve done a lot of cool things, and I haven’t cried. But that made me actually cry just because I know how hard that girl works. Obviously, you know, I care for that girl. But I just know how hard she works, and she earned that.”

Jordan retained her title against Michin on the June 18, episode of WWE NXT and retained against Izzi Dame at a WWE NXT live event that same week.

Hayes hopes to begin his own journey to title gold tonight when he competes in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
