The Young Bucks say they had to axe an idea for their run as AEW World Tag Team Champions because of NXT.

Speaking on Tunnel Talk, the Young Bucks were asked about storylines that they wanted to do that they didn’t get the chance to pull off. Matt shared his idea for the EVP Roulette and said that they couldn’t do it because NXT did the Spin The Wheel, Make A Deal gimmick.

“Originally, I wanted to do something called the Elite Roulette, or the EVP Roulette, and I wanted to spin a wheel every week, and whoever it landed on randomly, they'd have to come out and wrestle us right then and there, and we'd have to do a title defense,” he said. “I wanted to do it every week, and we would never know who it was going to be because in the back, we would have a shot of 12 tag teams in the back, all ready to go, and that name gets picked, they come out, and we do the match.

“Originally, I wanted it to finally land on, well, I don't know if I should give that away because that's something we can probably do in the future, but I wanted it to land on a very specific team, and I wanted them to maul us in four seconds. I thought it would have shocked everyone, and that was my big plan, and we would have dropped the titles that way originally.”

Matt Jackson On Plans Changing

Matt continued by saying that the plan was set in stone, and this was meant to be the way that the Young Bucks would lose the titles. Howeve, they had to nix the idea after NXT did the Spin The Wheel, Make A Deal gimmick.

“We were going to do this, this was set in stone, and then one day, I think it was Sonjay [Dutt] sends us a text and goes, hey, about your idea, and he sends me a thing, and I guess NXT was doing a spin the wheel, make a deal thing,” he said. “It started that week, and we were like, dang. It was one of those situations, I was so excited for this idea to pay off, to fight four or five random teams and finally dropped the titles in five seconds, and I had to just give it up and go, okay, that idea's not gonna happen, and it hurt.”

More Details

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) then reported that he could confirm that The Outrunners were considered for the spot that Matthew mentioned.
