Young Bucks Considered Stopping Using The Superkick For Heel Turn, Share Why They Reconsidered

The Young Bucks almost removed the superkick from their move set before Nick Jackson stopped it.
The move, invented by Chris Adams and popularised by Shawn Michaels, has become synonymous with the Young Bucks. The amount they used it originally drew criticism from fans. However, it has since become a staple of their matches as they lead the AEW tag team division.
The Young Bucks recently spoke with the Tunnel Talkpodcast. Matt Jackson revealed he wanted the Young Bucks to stop doing the superkick after they turned heel at the start of the year.
However, he was quickly reminded why that wouldn’t work by Nick Jackson. His brother reminded him about the Young Bucks’ deal with Reebok for a shoe called “Superkicks”, which shelved any plans of dropping the move from their arsenal.
“I told Nick, ‘I don’t want to do a superkick ever again.’ And he fought me don’t hat and he won the fight. I was like ‘When we come back, I never want to do one ever again’ and he’s like ‘That’s our thing!'”
Nick Jackson then jumped in. “Here’s the problem with that, Matt, you idiot. We have a shoe that’s called the ‘SuperKick’coming out that we have to sell and Reebok will be angry,” Nick admitted.
Young Bucks: Creative Changed Multiple Times Before We Dropped AEW Tag Titles
Speaking on Tunnel Talk, Matt Jackson notes that they like to plan creative somewhat far in advance. Nick then revealed that the plans changed multiple times in their recent title run before they dropped the gold.
"It's interesting, though," Nick Jackson said. "For instance, with this last run we just had, we were supposed to drop those titles months and months before we actually dropped them. But creative changed, I would say four to five different times in the last six months. At one point, we were gonna lose the belts to a certain team, and then a month later, it changed to another team, and then I remember Private Party came up to us, actually, and they mentioned about wanting to do a long-term program with us, and we were like, sorry man, Tony just gave us the layout of what we're doing, and that's not in the cards."
Nick continued by saying the plans changed after they faced Private Party at AEW WrestleDream.
"Something changed, and we ended up wrestling them in a match at [WrestleDream], and we tore the house down, and as soon as we got backstage, we knew, alright, it's in Tony's eyes," he said. "He was like, I think we have something. Matt and I thought the same exact thing. We're, we've gotta pivot, we've gotta change our plans again. That was the fourth time changing plans for those titles to be dropped. We were happy though because we wanted to put those guys over. They deserved the spotlight. I'm just glad Matt and I got to give them that last shove before we left."
